Rhea Fire Devastates Parts of Oklahoma

The Rhea Fire originated a half mile West of Rhea, Oklahoma on April 12, 2018.  According to the latest report from Oklahoma Forestry Services, on April 23, 2018 the fire had grown to 286,742 acres and was nearly 74 percent contained.  Media reports indicate that over 200 personnel have been assigned to fight the blaze along with air tankers, helicopters and an air attack plane.  The exact cause of the blaze is still unknown.

The extent of structural, agricultural and livestock loss has not yet been determined, but in a media report on April 18, 2018, the Dewey County Sheriff reported at least 50 homes had burned in the Rhea fire.  The media is also reporting that the Rhea fire is to blame for two casualties.  The first was a 61-year-old male, who was helping fight the blaze by operating a motor road grader.  He died as a result of smoke inhalation.  The second was a woman who is believed to have been trying to evacuate the Rhea fire when flames burned her car trapping her inside.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families and loved ones during this most difficult time.

Currently assisting in the representation of individuals impacted by the Starbuck Fire, Shane has become acquainted with the devastation property owners endure following a fire of this magnitude.  The Starbuck Fire of March 6, 2017 burned a total 662,687 acres in Kansas and Oklahoma after a poorly maintained power line in Beaver County, Oklahoma ignited the fire.   The Starbuck Fire burned in excess of 460,000 acres in the state of Kansas making it the largest fire in Kansas history.
